Spice Up Your Plate: Plant-Based Jamaican Curry Shrimp

CONTRIBUTORS

Curry, a dish beloved across the globe, is more than a meal. It's a symbol of cultural fusion and culinary adventure. Originating from India, curry isn't a single dish but a diverse spectrum of flavors, techniques, and ingredients that vary worldwide. Whether it's the rich creamy butter chicken of North India, the spicy, coconut-laden Thai curry, or the fragrant cinnamon-tinged Moroccan tagine, curry reflects the history and traditions of its makers.

What makes curry so captivating isn't just its taste- it's the way it tells stories of trade, migration, and cross-cultural exchange. Every bite is a journey through history, making curry not just food, but a global experience.

  • 5 Pimento Seeds
  • 1 Tablespoon of Jamaican Curry Powder

  • Green Onions
  • 2 Carrots

  • Black Pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • Half an onion
  • 2 Garlic cloves

instructions:

Instructions

  1. Wash the "shrimp" in a mixing bowl with lemon juice. Then, rinse with water.
  2. Pour the onion and garlic powder, and Morton's Nature Season Blend according to your servings
  3. Peel and chop the garlic into small pieces and put in the bowl.
  4. Wash the pimiento seeds and thyme, and place them in the bowl.
  5. Add curry powder, black pepper, and salt.
  6. Mix all the ingredients in the bowl until the shrimp gets an equal amount of curry on each side.
  7. Grab a pot and add a little bit of oil. Once the pot heats up, put the shrimp in the pot with all of the ingredients listed in steps 1-6.
  8. Add water. Make the water isn't to above shrimp.
  9. Peel and dice the potatoes. Peel and cut the carrots. Dice the onion.
  10. Add the potatoes, carrots, and onion to the shrimp. Leave the vegetables to cook for 8-10 minutes.
  11. Reduce the temperature to medium heat.
  12. Peel and cut green onions. Then, add them to the pot. (Feel free to add more thyme, if it's to your liking for more flavor)
  13. Reduce the temperature to low heat.
  14. Allow the shrimp to cook for a total of 55 minutes. Feel free to do a taste test, 10 minutes before the cooking time is over. Add all-purpose seasoning if needed. Then, allow it to marinate. If the taste isn't to your liking, add more all-purpose seasoning.
